At Trinity Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten, Easter is more than just egg hunts and bunnies, even if that was the highlight during the school’s annual Easter celebration Thursday.
“Jesus is the most special thing about Easter and my favorite part is finding eggs and the treats inside,” said 4-year-old Sophronia Rawleigh-Reyes.
Sam Tierney, a teacher at the center, said students were taught a couple weeks leading up to the holiday about Jesus, resurrection and the reason Easter is celebrated.
“That’s the day Jesus came out of the rock,” said six-year-old Sawyer Hall.
Tierney said Spring activities were used to help students understand what resurrection is.
“During Spring, things start to regrow and bloom and it represents new life and the resurrection of Jesus, which is what Easter is about, so lessons are taught through the seasonal change to help students understand why we celebrate Easter,” said Tierney.
One of the activities used to help students understand resurrection was through butterflies. Each classroom raised caterpillars; watching them grow through each cycle of their life and transformation into a butterfly.
“It represented the cycle of life and the resurrection of new life,” said Tierney.
After learning the reason for the holiday, the children hunted for the eggs that decorated the lawns and playground and the Easter Bunny himself hopped into the center to greet the children with hugs and ‘high-fives.’
Trinity Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten is a Christ-centered learning environment, located in Gardnerville where bible lessons and Chapel time are incorporated into daily curriculums.
