Genoa, Nev. — Chain controls are still in effect for Kingsbury Grade this morning. The state traffic cameras appear to be malfunctioning, but it was really slick last night and there’s no reason to expect it to be better this morning.


Roads were slushy on my drive across the Valley, which means they could be icy after a night where temperatures dipped into the 20s. Take it easy on the drive until the sun has had a chance to warm up the asphalt.


Douglas County School Board trustees will discuss their tentative budget at their 4 p.m. meeting today at Whittell High School. The final budget will be discussed in Minden on May 17. You can find out more at www.dcsd.k12.nv.us/boardnews and clicking the big purple button.


A spot 2 miles south of Minden recorded a 79 mph wind gust at 6 a.m., according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Gardnerville was getting slammed after lunch on Monday, with a 64 mph gust at the base of Kingsbury around 12:53 p.m. Heavenly Ski Resort record an 85 mph gust around the same time.


Foothill resident Jeff Garvin reported .22 inches of precipitation with about three-quarters of an inch of snow on Monday. Garvin said it was 17 degrees at his place this morning. Topaz Ranch Estates resident John Flaherty reported a low of 19 degrees.


A middle school girl reported missing on Monday has been found, according to a social media post from her mother. The girl got into a pickup with another young woman and was the subject of a search by Douglas County deputies into the night.


It’s going to be chilly today with a high temperature of 46 degrees and the wind increasing to 10-15 mph with 30 mph gusts. The overnight low tonight is forecast to drop to 21 degrees. There’s a possibility we’ll see more winds on Thursday morning as another storm arrives.
