Genoa, Nev. — As of Tuesday, the case rate for confirmed coronavirus in Douglas County is down to five a day, according to the state. That’s quite a decrease from the reported peak of 22 cases this time last month. According to the state tracker, Douglas has seen 51 deaths since August 2020 attributed to the contagion.

Around 180 people turned out for Wednesday’s Best Of Carson Valley luncheon at the Carson Valley Inn. There are several banners available for pick-up at the office. We’re open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remember, we’re in Suite K on the far right side of The Record-Courier Center.

Douglas County commissioners are scheduled to discuss an ordinance requiring golf course owners to file a maintenance plan should the golf course close. Unless some compromise has been reached since the first reading, I anticipate at least one golf course owner will lawyer up.

There are several presentations on the agenda before commissioners get to the ordinance, including by Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., Stormwater Manager Courtney Walker and the Secretary of State’s Office on new voting rules.

Commissioners meet 1 p.m. today in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St. You can watch meetings by visiting douglascountynv.gov and clicking on watch board meetings.

The possibility of rain in the forecast was reduced for today but increased to likely for Friday. Parts of the Valley might see some precipitation after 11 a.m. today, but the bulk of the storm is due to arrived early Friday morning. Even if it does rain, the forecast is just for about a quarter-inch.

Today expect mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers and a high temperature of 67 degrees. The wind will be out of the south as the front approaches at 5-10 mph, shifting to the southwest at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
