Teen creative writing group meets virtually

The Douglas County Public Library hosts The Writer’s Block, a creative writing group for teens ages 13-17 that meets virtually the first Friday of each month from 3:30-5 p.m.

Youth Services technician Rachel Soleta said The Writer’s Block offers a supportive environment for writers to gather, hone skills, find motivation, and receive constructive feedback. The group explores a variety of literary genres that include poetry, short stories, dialogue, narratives, and free writes.

Writers are encouraged to share their current projects and can look to the group for inspiring writing prompts. The Writer’s Block aims to provide engaging topics that encourage creative expression. Library facilitators also share their own work.

Soleta mentioned “Round Robin” exercises as a fun way to collaborate with other writers and collectively craft a story, develop improv skills, and practice spontaneous responses.

The next Writer’s Block meeting will be April 2. To participate, email the library at info@douglas.lib.nv.us and provide your name, age, and library card number. The library will reply with a Discord invitation, which enables access to the virtual meeting.

Call the library with questions at 775-782-9841.
