Douglas High athletic director Marc Walling confirmed that Friday’s contest between the Tigers and Damonte Ranch has been rescheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m.
The 22-hour postponement of kickoff comes after a positive test result within the Tiger football team cause an initial postponement of the game from Friday night.
Walling said Friday afternoon that the team had cleared the necessary tests to be cleared for kickoff, meaning the Tigers won’t have to potentially cancel the contest given the brevity of the spring season.
Saturday night kickoff
Douglas is 1-1 so far this season and comes off a 35-15 loss to an undefeated Bishop Manogue team. The Mustangs of Damonte Ranch will be another undefeated test for the Tigers after Damonte Ranch beat Reed 30-24 to start the season.
Last week, Damonte Ranch took care of Galena 40-0.
Quarterback Ethan Kulpin and running back Carson Smith have been a dynamic duo in the backfield this season for the Mustangs.
Kulpin has thrown for 342 yards and three touchdowns in the Mustangs’ two wins while Smith has 261 yards rushing on 32 carries with four touchdowns.
However, Smith and the Damonte Ranch defense might pose an even bigger threat Saturday evening.
Smith averages 12.5 tackles per game and already has eight tackles for loss this season.
As a team, Damonte Ranch has 12 sacks, two interceptions and five fumble recoveries in its first two contests of the year.
