Genoa, Nev. — State government offices are under a two-hour delay this morning due to issues in Washoe Valley, where Interstate 580 is closed from Eastlake to Bowers due to blowing snow and multiple crashes.

Highway 395 closed from Mammoth to Bridgeport in Mono County south of Douglas County. With Interstate 80 closed from Colfax to the state line, expect some shortages of perishable goods. The bright spot over the Sierra is Highway 50, which reopened to Meyers on Monday.

Carson Valley’s segment of 395 looks pretty clear on the traffic cameras. Snow if falling about halfway down the Valley side of Kingsbury and on 395 at Double Spring. Chains or snow tires are required pretty much everywhere as we dig out this morning.

East Fork firefighters are reminding folks to check the batteries in their carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. December is the second deadliest month of the year for carbon monoxide deaths. The first is January.

We are on the official countdown to the new year with four days left in 2021, which was more like getting hit with a blackjack than winning one. We expect to have The R-C open today.
