With 13 inches of snow in the hopper so far, December is on track to make the top 10 snowiest in Minden in 115 years.

R-C Weather Watcher Stan Kapler reported 7 inches of snow so far from the Christmas storm. That’s in addition to the half-foot he recorded for Dec. 13-14.

The eighth snowiest December in Minden was in 1931 when 13 inches fell. With less than a week left in 2021, it’s unlikely the Douglas County seat will see anywhere near the record of 36.5 inches of snow set in 1941.

Kapler recorded 3.3 inches of precipitation during December as of Sunday.

The amount of snow varied across Carson Valley with 11.5 inches falling a mile north of Genoa before the snow started to let up around lunchtime. Two inches of that came down over three hours on Monday morning.

The National Weather Service reported 4.6 inches about 6 miles west of Gardnerville.
