A winter storm warning has been extended from Lake Tahoe to Carson Valley with predicted snow accumulations of 3-6 inches on the Valley floor.

Above 5,000 feet those totals go to 5-10 inches. Winds gusting to 45 mph are expected to make travel conditions hazardous on Christmas Day.

“Strong and gusty winds could cause tree damage and low visibility in blowing snow,” forecasters said in a statement issued on Friday.

Trees in power lines are being blamed for some of the power outages at Lake Tahoe on Friday.

The warning expires 11 p.m. Saturday. A wind advisory for Carson Valley expires at 7 a.m. Christmas Day.

Heavenly Ski Resort reported 9 inches of snow overnight. 1.71 inches of rain were reported in the Carson Valley foothills, according to the National Weather Service. Minden reported 1.03 inches.
