Prescribed burning in the Lake Tahoe Basin will be moving to the West Shore next week after a couple of days working near the top of Kingsbury.

Members of the Zephyr Crew of the Tahoe-Douglas Fire Protection District have conducted burns around Kingsbury neighborhoods over the days since Thanksgiving.

Prescribed burning is expected to shift to near Kings Beach, Tahoma and Meeks Bay over the next week.

“Fall and winter bring cooler temperatures and precipitation, which are ideal for conducting prescribed burning operations,” fire officials said. “Each operation follows a specialized burn plan, which considers temperature, humidity, wind, moisture of vegetation and conditions for dispersal of smoke.”

Prescribed fire signs will be posted on roadways near areas affected by fire operations.

Open burning on the East Fork Fire Protection District ends on Dec. 19.
