Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club has been busy during the COVID pandemic lock down.

Volunteers have spent the last 15 weeks, over 400 hours, manning the phones to helping seniors and other citizens of Douglas County get a COVID vaccine appointment.

The club is now calling a listing of citizens who contacted the Nevada Department of Health about getting a vaccine appointment to make sure they have gotten a shot or helping them get one.

While the Senior Center has been closed the Young at Heart Board has donated $26,000 to upgrade and finish the Ceramics Room with additional cabinets on every wall, new counter tops and wall shelves. They are currently bidding for eight craft tables with height adjustment to complete the up grade.

The club also assisted the Bocce Ball Eagle Scout project with $550 to install benches and umbrellas at each end of the court out behind the Senior Dining Room.

Another project was to provide $13,111 for all new furniture and cabinets for the DART office out at the Minden Airport.

“So even though we have not been able to have our usual fundraisers we have still been able to help improve the Douglas County Senior Center,” club members said.
