Sparks, Truckee defeat Fallon’s soccer teams

The Greenwave soccer teams came up empty handed last week in a pair of league games against Sparks and Truckee.

Fallon’s girls team couldn’t convert on several chances in a 1-0 loss to Sparks on Tuesday and then dropped a 5-0 decision to Truckee on Friday. It was the Truckee game, though, that saw the best effort from the team during the week.

“Truckee was a different game for us as we came out with a lot of energy,” Fallon girls soccer coach Randy Hines said. “We made a formation change and a couple of lineup changes that we feel we will need to help us for the rest of the season.”

Although the score against Sparks was closer, Hines said the team showed frustration but he feels the change in the Truckee game will help the team for the rest of the season.

“We had our chances on goal but we couldn’t get any of them in the net,” he said. “The girls seemed frustrated and were trying to force things to happen.”

For the boys, David Lopez’s team is still searching for its first win of the season.

The Greenwave was shut out against Sparks, 7-0, but came back with a pair of goals in a 9-2 loss to Truckee. Cole Hamlin and Caleb Proffen each scored in Friday’s game against Truckee.

“It was a good feeling for our team to get into the net,” Lopez said. “The spark was there but we can’t seem to keep it lit. We have been working on our formation and the players are adjusting a little at a time.”

Lopez said the team continues to improve but encountered some bad luck with illnesses and injuries, which affected the rotation.

“We are still struggling to maintain possession of the ball and our first touches, but we continue to work on it. A lot of work still needs to be done but we will get there eventually with time.”

Fallon faces Lowry and North Tahoe this week with the boys on the road and the girls hosting for both games.
