The Carson High boys and girls track teams got off to a strong start in their opening meet of the season against Manogue, Damonte Ranch and Reno at Reno High on Saturday.
Abby Pradere, the defending state champion in the 800 and 1600, posted a strong early season time in winning the 800 in 2 minutes, 19.77 seconds.
Ben Granados had a strong meet for Carson’s boys, winning the 400 in 53.47. Granados also finished second in the 200 in 23.16 behind Manogue’s Jacob Romero, who won in 22.91.
In a loaded 100 field, Granados took fourth in 11.48 behind Reno’s Benjamin Butler (11.40), Romero (11.20) and Manogue star running back Peyton Dixon (11.07), who has signed to play football at Fresno State.
Ashley Britt and Merce Tarrayo were both double winners for Carson’s girls. Britt won the 100 hurdles in 18.29 and the 300 hurdles in 49.99. Tarrayo won the shot put at 31 feet, 5 inches and the discus at 101-4.
Carson’s girls also won the 1600 relay in 4:23.64. Annika Wick placed second for CHS in the girls 400 in 1:05.72 behind Damonte Ranch’s Grace Harris Hammond (1:02.85).
Wick also placed fourth in a loaded 200 in 28.62 behind Harris Hammond (26.79), Manogue’s Maali DeLeon (27.25) and Damonte’s Emily Oravetz (28.37).
Carson’s top three distance runners, Ethan Byasse, Zachary Sever and Hunter Rauh went 1-2-3 in the 1600. Byasse won in 4:50.80, Sever was second in 4:51.28 and Rauh was third in 4:56.74.
Also for Carson, Jakob Heller took second in the boys triple jump at 40-1 1/2, Hailey Ponczoch won the girls triple jump at 26-9 and Kai Miller won the boys pole vault at 10-6.
