Two doubles teams will represent the Greenwave at this week’s state tennis tournament in Las Vegas.

The senior pair of Myles Getto and Blake Malkovich, senior Brynlee Shults and Oasis Academy sophomore Brooklyn Whitaker each advanced to the regional championship bout to finish second on Saturday in Truckee.

After not dropping a set, Getto and Malkovich ran into the No. 1 team from Truckee, Zach Larson and Noah Warren, losing 6-3 and 6-2, in the championship match. Shults and Whitaker, on the other hand, had to battle for their season in the semifinals to earn a date in the title bout where they lost to South Tahoe’s Abby Burns and Gabbi Fisher, 6-1 and 6-2.

Seeded second, Getto and Malkovich weren’t threatened until the final match against Larson and Warren. They blanked No. 15 Jeremiah Dahl and Ian Smith of South Tahoe, 6-0 and 6-0, and defeated No. 7 Sonam Sherpe and Kaller Womack of South Tahoe, 6-3 and 6-1. Getto and Malkovich finished the sweep over South Tahoe by beating its best team, the No. 3 seed of Quinn Proctor and Pete Sullivan, 6-2 and 6-2.

Shults and Whitaker, the region’s third seed, received a bye in the opening round before defeating No. 6 Theresa Sandborn and Lauren Schwartz of South Tahoe, 6-1 and 6-3. After dropping the first set, 6-2, against No. 2 Courtney Engberg and Rachel Heath of Truckee in the semifinals, Shults and Whitaker battled back with convincing 6-1 and 6-2 victories.

Thomas Jamieson and Alex Perazzo entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed and after winning its first round, the duo nearly pulled off an upset. Jamieson and Perazzo shut down No. 12 Tyler Davis and Lucas Valois of North Tahoe, 6-1 and 6-2, to set up the quarterfinal matchup with No. 4 Turner Drummond and Patrick Hogan of Truckee. Jamieson and Perazzo won the first set, 6-4, but fell 6-0 and 6-3.

Compton Lords and Josh Mikulak, seeded eighth, easily dispatched No. 9 Tristan Cayolle and Dillon Hudson of North Tahoe before running into the No. 1 seed. Larson and Warren shut out Fallon’s third-best doubles team, 6-0 and 6-0, in the quarterfinals. No. 8 Nicole Klein and Selene Montes had a tough first round for Fallon, losing to No. 9 Millie Jenkins and Lily Price of Incline, 6-2 and 6-1.

In singles play, only Jamie Bekiares (No. 5) and Ashby Trotter (No. 8) won their opening bout while Ryan Lords (No. 13) received a walkover.

Bekiares defeated No. 12 Saray Salazar of Sparks, 6-0 and 6-0, before losing to Truckee’s Becky Ziegler, the No. 4 seed, 6-2 and 6-2. Ziegler also defeated Fallon’s Abigail Ritts, seeded 13th, 6-0 and 6-1. Trotter battled back from a first-set loss (7-6) to win 6-3 and 6-4 over No. 9 Lyndsey Allen of South Tahoe. Trotter, though, was shut out by No. 1 Viki Valente of Incline, 6-0 and 6-0.

For the boys, Lords lost to No. 5 Dalton Fry of Incline, 6-0 and 6-0, after the walkover, while No. 10 Nathaneil Klein lost to No. 7 Juan Vasquez of South Tahoe, 6-1 and 6-0, and No. 12 Ben Jamieson lost to Fry, 6-1 and 6-0.
