Nevada Department of Transportation accepting applications for TAP grants

The Nevada Department of Transportation is accepting applications for Transportation Alternatives Program grants.

Those funds can be used for a variety of projects that improve non-motorized mobility, historic preservation, scenic accessibility and safe routes to school among others.

NDOT officials say they’ve been awarded nearly $6 million to fund those grants to governments including tribal groups, school districts, private schools and non-profit groups.

Projects require at least 5 percent matching funds from the sponsors. These types of activities are eligible for the money: transportation infrastructure such as traffic calming, environmental management and accessibility to scenic areas.

Non-infrastructure activities include such projects as those that improve the ability of younger students to bike or walk to school.
