Strong winds forecast for this weekend

Strong winds are expected this weekend in parts of Northern Nevada, including Carson City and Douglas, Storey and Washoe counties.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning starting Saturday evening through late Sunday.

“South to southwest 25 to 35 (mph) with gusts to 60 mph possible. Wind prone areas may see gusts up to 70 mph with Sierra ridge gusts over 100 mph,” reads the warning.

At the same time, a storm will move into Lake Tahoe dropping as much as five inches of snow in the basin. Light snow accumulations could occur as low as 4,500 feet, according to NWS.

Temperatures in Carson City are expected to drop from a high of 67 degrees on Saturday to a high of 46 degrees on Monday, when there is a 80 percent chance of rain or snow starting early in the morning. Less than an inch of snow is expected.

The remainder of the week high daily temperatures are projected to stay in the 40s with overnight lows in the 20s.
