National Life Group announced Tuesday its annual list of Main Streets Across America, a celebration of streets in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia that embrace a strong sense of community and a commitment to creating an environment where people want to live, work and play.

Nevada is represented in this year’s list by C Street in Virginia City.

“C Street in Virginia City is a great example of a vibrant place at the heart of its community,” Lee Duncan of Alliance Group, an affiliate of National Life Group, said in a release. “I am thrilled that C Street is featured this year and that we get to share Virginia City’s community pride and unique stories with a broader audience.”

A trip through the Main Streets Across America interactive map reveals many interesting features and facts about these streets and their communities, both current and historical.

The Main Streets Across America website notes, “There’s a good reason why C Street was named the nation’s largest historic landmark when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. To walk along its wood-plank sidewalks, lit by gas street lamps, past establishments like the Silver Queen Hotel and the Ponderosa Saloon is to step back into an Old West panorama.”
