Shortly after receiving national recognition as a mecca for holiday shopping, the Carson City Tourism and Culture Authority is releasing a video showcasing what is available in the capital city.

“We will use the video to promote the Carson City shopping experience to people throughout the region,” said Kyle Horvath, marketing manager for the tourism authority. “It’ll also be a good reminder for people who live here the wide array of shopping opportunities right here at home.”

The travel website, Expedia, named Carson City one of its Top 25 Best American Towns for Holiday Shopping.

“We scoured over three million social media posts, the majority of which occurred over Twitter, and homed in on conversations relating to local shops and holiday markets,” the website reported. “From there, we extracted the most buzz-worthy places to determine the it spots for holiday shopping in 2017.”

The website included the Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair on Nov. 17-18 and the Christmas Shopping Extravaganza on Dec. 8-9 at Fuji Park as prime events to buy local Christmas gifts.

“Prefer to take your time and see what’s out there?” it asked. Don’t miss the locally owned shops in downtown Carson City — they’re as unique as every snowflake!”

Some of those downtown shops are featured on the latest video released by the Carson City Tourism and Culture Authority.

“We wanted to promote the diversity of shopping within the downtown corridor,” Horvath said. “We have 13 galleries where you can purchase locally made art, three bike shops, along with stores selling everything, such as home decor, jewelry, books and more.”

Horvath said he hopes the video will encourage shoppers to check out the downtown or remind shoppers to promote local stores to friends and family.

“When you shop local not only do you get unique items, you support your neighbors and community members which keeps the money local,” Horvath said.“Shop small. Shop local. Shop Carson City.”
