Nevada DMV says don’t visit in the next week

If you can wait, this week and especially next Monday are not the time to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Nevada DMV officials say the Monday following Thanksgiving — they call it Black Monday — is the busiest day of the year at DMV and this week isn’t much better.

They’re urging the public to use appointments, online services and kiosks to avoid the crowds.

DMV Director Terri Albertson said there are a number of ways to save time dealing with DMV. She said the first stop should be the agency website at dmvnv.com. The website can handle a variety of transacitons including address changes, driver history printouts, personalized license plate orders and even original registrations for those who bought a vehicle from a Nevada dealer.

Kiosks, she said, can print registration decals and driver histories on the spot and many of them take cash.

If your business requires a live visit to an office, she said make an appointment.

DMV will be closed from Thanksgiving Day through Sunday.

Albertson said DMV will also close on Christmas and on New Year’s Day.

She said wait times are always longer the day after a holiday.
