Selective service law: The law was approved that requires all male persons between the ages of 21 and 30, both inclusive, to present themselves between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 1917, in the precincts where they have their permanent home. Each Selective Service Board consists of a sheriff, county clerk, and county physician. The physician will act as surgeon and pass upon the physical fitness of the applicants. Registration will be completed in one day. (World War I was declared on April 6, 1917).

Vets: Disabled veterans of either war or widows of veterans who cannot do their yard work or odd jobs done can have that matter attended to. E. P. Chambers, manager of the veterans housing project, said residents of the project, all ex-servicemen, donated their services to help disabled vets.
