The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada is hosting a free admission day this weekend all made possible by local businesses, organizations and individuals.
The museum is debuting four new exhibits collaborated by locals, such as the Earthquake Table, handmade and welded by Carson City locals Maurice White and Ray Murphy.
Sponsored by Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota, a lemonade stand exhibit to learn business fundamentals also will be offered. The auto dealer also paid for the free day admission for the community to enjoy.
“I take it as a sign that we’re doing a valuable service for the city and commodity for the children,” said Museum Executive Director Lu Olsen. “It’s a validation from the city.”
Another new exhibit is the pirate-themed Knot Tying display from the Kiwanis of the Sierra Nevada, Ray Fredrick and Carole Tashman.
There’s also a Brain Table donated by the partnership of Carson City Sign Pro, and Greg Wilson of Creative Construction and Electric Company.
The fourth exhibit is called Simple Machines, from the partnership of Carson City Grant.
The Carson City Visitors Bureau also got involved by creating flyers for the event.
Olsen said involvements from the community is regular, and is open for more volunteers.
“I’m a retired school teacher so I want this museum to be educational,” she said. “That includes the items in our gift shop, as I want to continue to promote education at home.”
The event goes from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 813 N. Carson St.
