Walkaway recaptured after stealing water truck

The man who walked away from the Stewart Conservation Camp in South Carson City was rearrested Wednesday after stealing and crashing a Carson City Public Works Water truck.

Martin Joseph, 47, was last seen Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m. near the edge of the ranch complex which is located off of Snyder Avenue near Northern Nevada Correctional Center, according to The Nevada Department of Corrections.

About 10:30 a.m., Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a man trying to steal a vehicle at the Highway 395 Sprint Store. Witnesses chased him away, where he ran to Fuji Park in Carson City.

When authorities arrived in the area of Fuji Park, Carson City Park employees advised them the suspect allegedly stole their water truck. Officials were attempting to locate the vehicle when they received a report of a head on collision at Foothill Meadows and Foothill Road in Genoa.

Douglas County, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Highway Patrol all responded to the location.

There they discovered a red-four door vehicle had been run off the road and was sideways in a ditch. Witnesses advised officers a man had exited and ran from the scene, and it was later discovered Joseph had attempted to enter the garage of a residence on the street to steal another vehicle. The resident chased Joseph off the property and he ran on foot toward Limousine Court.

Joseph was located by two Douglas County K9 officers and apprehended.

No injuries were reported with the crash.

Joseph was arrested and taken to the Douglas County jail for the attempted burglary charges. Carson City also will charge Joseph for grand theft auto and Nevada Highway Patrol investigated the accident said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen.

Joseph arrived at NDOC from Washoe County, on Dec. 8, 2014. Joseph was serving 19 to 48 months for grand larceny of a motor vehicle. He was approved for parole in 2015 but violated his parole and returned to NDOC in December that year. In March 2016, Joseph was moved to the Stewart Conservation Camp where he worked at the ranch.
