Irene Frances Desmond

Irene Frances Desmond returned peacefully to Heaven on March 16, 2017.


She was born March 16, 1916, to Michael and Amelia Diers in Brooklyn, New York. She is the second youngest and only surviving of five children: Charlotte (Lottie), Josephine, Camilla (Mema) and baby boy Edward.


In 1936, she married the love of her life, John Francis Desmond and started their family in New Rochelle, New York. They had four children who were the joy of their lives. In 1951, they decided to take a leap of faith and move their family to Wilcox. AZ to start a new life and business. It was so successful that in 1960 the family relocated to Elko, Nevada.


Once John retired, they decided to settle in Minden, Nevada and later to Carson City, Nevada, where she became a Real Estate Broker for 30 years. They were married 59 years before John passed away in 1995.


She had a love of golf so much, she became the president of the Women’s Golf Association in Elko, Nevada. She still played golf until she was 90 years old. One of her many favorite activities included playing bridge with friends and being very involved in the local Catholic Church Alter Society.


Irene was a strong and empowering woman who lived to take care of her family. She was beloved by all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. She will be dearly missed by all.


She was the matriarch of her family and loved them more than anything. She is survived by her children, Jack Desmond of Battle mountain, NV, Karen Cosgrove, of Carson City, NV, Irene (Bart) Perkins of Salt Lake City, UT. Her grandchildren, Kelli Desmond of Fallon, NV, Christopher Cosgrove of California, Danny Desmond of Fallon, NV, Erin (Robert) Kennedy of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan Howington of Phoenix, AZ, Megan Desmond of Battle Mountain, NV. Great-grandchildren, Triton Desmond of Fallon, NV, Katherine Kennedy of Phoenix, AZ.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City, NV.


Burial will be in Elko, Nevada.


Walton’s Chapel of the Valley, 12 81 N. Roop St. Carson City, NV in care of arrangements.
