Dayton baseball falls to Elko

ELKO — Alec Wall hit a two-run homer to snap a 9-all tie and give Elko an 11-9 win over Dayton in the 3A baseball opener for both schools.

Dayton scored twice in the second, third, fourth and sixth to take an 8-1 lead, but Elko scored eighth in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 9-8. Dayton tied the game in the top of the seventh only to see Wall win it with a dramatic two-run homer.

Jesse Schmidt went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs, Dylan Baker went 2-for-4, including a homer, and drove in four. Trevor Burrows went 2-for-4.

The teams continue the series today with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
