Controller Parkinson: He made his appearance after having undergone a profitable recruiting season in the salubrious valleys near the coast. He’s gained 40 pounds and looks well. We are truly glad to see Mr. Parkinson looking so hearty — a marked and gratifying change in an invalid.

Cutting affray: A man named Pike and James Murry had an altercation in Robert’s Saloon. Pike, drawing a knife, cut Murry in four places. Both men were placed under arrest.

Thefts at Lone Mountain Cemetery: Three ornamental gates dating back to the late 1800s were stolen from Lone Mountain Cemetery. One of the gates led to the sentinel statue for the Grand Army of the Republic, erected in 1891.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
