CVS Pharmacy, 220 Fairview Drive, 98 points. Numerous items including snack foods and soups were past their use-by date.
Mom & Pop’s Diner, 224 S. Carson St., 96 points. The table on which the meat slicer was stored wasn’t smooth and easily cleanable. The floor in the refrigerator storage area was damaged. The fluorescent lights in the refrigerator storage area were missing required protective shields. The light fixtures in the kitchen were dirty.
Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St., 92 points. The employee hand wash sink wasn’t easily accessible. Mice feces were found in the dry storage area.
China Jade Horse, 963 Topsy Lane, Suite 310, scored 53 points. Two platters of cooked food were being cooled on a chair near an open door. The cutting boards needed to be repaired or replaced. Employees didn’t wash their hands after handling food; the inspector didn’t observe any handwashing during the inspection. Sanitizer levels were not being monitored in the dishwasher’s final rinse cycle. Employees were not familiar with setting up and maintaining a three-compartment sink. Hot water was not available at the handwashing stations in the kitchen. An employee was storing his or her supplements over raw chicken on the preparation table. Some food items were not properly labeled and dated. Unapproved food storage containers were being used throughout the facility. Unwrapped food was found in the refrigerators and freezers. Flowers were being stored next to food in the walk-in cooler. Tape was found on the handle of a spray bottle. Kitchen surfaces and some food-contact surfaces needed to be cleaned. Strips to test sanitizer concentrations of the dishwasher and cleaning buckets were missing. Wiping cloths and storage buckets were missing in the food-handling areas of the facility. An extreme amount of grease was coating the interior of an oven. Clutter was found throughout the facility. Employees were storing their personal items in the kitchen area; the water heater was covered in flammable material. Filthy paint brushes were found in food preparation areas. Mops weren’t hung up to dry when not in use. Dry and soiled linens were in use at food-handling stations. None of the employees were certified food handlers.
