Air show coming to Minden with robust lineup

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Army Golden Knights and the Navy’s Super Hornet flight team are some of the crews touching down in Minden for the 2017 Aviation Roundup All Star Air Show.

Sponsored by the Carson Valley Inn and Michael Hohl Automotive, the Aviation Roundup Air Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8 at the Minden-Tahoe Airport.

Additional acts include: Rob Holland, holder of 19 international competition medals; Greg Koontz and the Alabama Boys, a down home comedy act that concludes with Greg landing on top of a moving pickup truck; Wild Blue Rodeo, the little plane that wants to be a fighter jet; Jacquie B, the lady who left a white collar job to become an air show pilot at 50; Bob Carlton, in his jet powered glider doing a full aerobatic show; and, Smoke ’n’ Thunder a jet powered truck that will challenge an air show performer to a race down the runway.

In addition, the spectator area will be filled with multiple aircraft static displays. Highlighting the displays will be today’s modern military aircraft including C-130, F5, and Ch-47 Chinook. Contrasting will be World War II fighter aircraft and bombers: B-25 bomber, P-51 Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire MKXIV, Grumman Hellcat, Grumman Bearcat and a Corsair. Several other unique aircraft will also be available for viewing in the spectator area.

The Thunderbird jets will be on hand and attendees will be able to enjoy the exceptional “walk down” of the team prior to its takeoff. After the flight, the team will be signing autographs.

Other adventures after the show will be rides in the B25, the Mustang or a high-speed run down the runway in a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.

If you’re a veteran, you’re going to find multiple areas of interest and information. Honor Flight, Quilts of Valor, WAVE and the office of Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt are some of the organizations to be on hand.
