On Gen. Flynn: Power reveals character
As to the growing list of issues encircling the resignation of (ret’d) General Flynn as national security adviser, sadly, it is more and more apparent — “separation of powers” and “checks and balances” are just meaningless symbols to congressional leaders to the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
Having 60-plus years of informal and formal experience to observe political behavior, the one absolute constant, consistent and predictable pattern about all elected public servants — power reveals character.
Most timely is the following Benjamin Franklin insight about today’s congressional leaders’ ethical timidity: “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety.”
And most noteworthy, Franklin’s ultimate observation so applicable to all elected public servants: “Well done is better than well said.”
