SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: We’re definitely on track in Carson City

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the entire community for its support of the Nevada State Railroad Museum in the museum’s effort to get back “on track” after suffering extensive flooding damage. The museum is receiving support from all across the country, showing how much the museum is supported nationwide.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High’s Jarod Butler, Nate Mersino, Abel Carter, Brandon Basa, Sheldon Miller and Kyle Rudy for advancing to the State Championships in wrestling. Also to Carter for finishing third at state and to Basa and Miller for winning state titles.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Gabrielle Unpingco of Las Vegas, who was honored as the Military Youth of the Year and to America Sarabia, who was honored as the Nevada Youth of the Year by the Boys and Girls Clubs last week in Carson City. Sarabia is a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Truckee Meadows and a Sparks High senior. Also to state finalists Chace Cleckley of Fallon; Marco Meraz of Valley High School in Las Vegas; Stephen Nielson of Elko High School; Shelby Rosebush of Mason Valley; and Natalie Ontiveros, a Carson High sophomore, of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada.
