Theater: Notwithstanding the bad walking, there was another full house at the theater last evening. The Lady of Lyons was remarkably well performed, all things considered. Mrs. Getzler’s Pauline was excellent. Col. Taylor’s Claude was a careful and successful assumption.

The lottery bill: Thursday the Senate, by a vote of 13 to 2, passed an act authorizing a lottery, which would provide revenue for the State of Nevada. While the propriety of such a bill is always questioned, the Senators who voted for the bill gave good reasons for their vote.

A complaint has been lodged with the post office officials in Washington about the mail that is being put on the Virginia & Truckee passenger train nightly at the depot by the Carson public. Postmaster Murray wishes again to call the attention to the public to this matter and hopes the practice will be abandoned.

Nevada counties no longer will be bound by an antiquated act which prohibits the building or purchase by county commissioners of structures costing more than $25,000 if the governor signs a bill passed by the Assembly Wednesday. A bill repealing the law which was enacted in 1865 and which carried the $25,000 limitation was passed by the lower house.

A campus minister at the University of Nevada said Thursday wedding chapel operator George Flint “has galvanized religious communities into action to demonstrate their concern that the welfare of the people be put above the glitter of cash.”

Sheriff Jerry Maple unveiled a $3.7 million budget for 1987-88 on Wednesday that included an appeal to hire seven jailers “because our jail system is rapidly falling behind in its ability to maintain a facility that is safe for both deputies and inmates.”
