Because of recent storms and flood events, several parks, trails and open spaces throughout Carson City have sustained more than $2 million in damage. The City is actively working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Nevada Department of Public Safety and the Division of Emergency Management (DEM) to assess damaged areas and identify safety concerns. While some repairs are already underway, others may take up to six months depending on the complexity and scope of work required.
With even more precipitation on its way, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space encourages residents to use extreme caution when participating in outdoor recreation activities. With extremely saturated soils, erosion, and storm water run-off, many of the City’s parks and recreation facilities remain closed due to safety concerns. Please respect barricades, warning signs, and use these areas at your own risk. The following parks and trails remain closed:
Mexican Ditch Trail south of Silver Saddle Ranch
Moffat open space trail between Lepire Drive and Hells Bells Road
Long Ranch Park/Open Space trails near creek
Morgan Mill access
Riverview Park Trails (Korean War Memorial is open)
Sports Complexes (John D. Winters Centennial Park, Governor’s Field, Pete Livermore)
