Movies are a staple of date nights, and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner residents can help preserve Fallon’s historic movie theater by participating in the third annual Love Our Theater 5k Fun Run.

The race is put on by Fallon Community Theatre, Inc. as one of their annual fundraisers to raise money for the Fallon Theatre. According to Dr. Stuart Richardson, board member-elect for FCT, Inc., all funds raised will go toward the operation and maintenance of the historic theater.

The race starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday next to City Hall. Participants will take a route around the city, eventually returning to the starting line. Richardson said the course would be fairly easy and stays inside the city.

“It’s 5k, so just around the city blocks,” he said. “I don’t think it really goes outside the city.”

Early registration costs $20 or $30 for a couple. Registration at the event opens at 9 a.m. and has a fee of $25 or $35 for a group. Registration forms can be dropped off at Kent’s Supply, Berney Realty or the Fallon Theatre.

Residents of all ages are welcome to participate.

Richardson said they have had much positive feedback in the past and people seem to like participating to preserve the theater. He noted if FCT, Inc. reaches its target of 400 permanent members, the group would have plenty of money from membership dues to operate and maintain the Fallon Theatre.

Participants of this year’s 5k will be given a free pass to a movie at the theater. Richardson said they have given out T-shirts in the past but decided to change it up this year.

The Love Our Theater 5k fundraiser is being paired with a special showing of Casablanca on Feb. 14.
