Prep Roundup: Carson High boys win at North Valleys

RENO — Trent Robison scored a season-best 26 points to lead Carson High to a 50-46 win over North Valleys in a 4A boys crossover game Saturday afternoon.

The Senators led wire to wire, but the lead never reached double digits, according to coach Jordan Glover.

“We played hard,” Glover said. “That is what I like about this team is that they are so coachable and always play so hard.

“We played under control. There have been games this year where we have played at the other team’s tempo. Today, we played at our tempo.”

On Friday, Carson dropped a 59-54 decision to McQueen.

The Senators played without Jonny Randall, who was ill and didn’t travel with the team on Friday.

Robison and Abel Carter both had 13 points, and Derek Barry added 12. Carter went 8-for-8 from the foul line.

Carson plays in the Livermore Tournament this week starting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Dayton rolls Sparks

SPARKS — Josh Pasasouk scored 21 points, grabbed four rebounds and had four steals to lead the Dust Devils to a 71-45 win in a Northern 3A game Saturday.

Dayton improved to 2-2 in league play. The Dust Devils play at Lovelock on Dec. 28.

Trevor Burrows finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals, Chase Peterson added 10 points, two assists and two steals, and Hugo Ramirez tallied eight points.

Hug holds off Douglas

Hug defeated Douglas, 56-50, on Saturday.

Jason Gray scored 13 with three 3-pointers to lead Douglas. Hug led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter before the Tigers rallied to make it close at the end.

On Friday, Douglas (2-4 league, 2-9 overall) lost at Reno.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Carson crushes Panthers

RENO — Bella Kordonowy, Lily Bouza and Lauren Lemburg combined for 45 points to lead Carson to a 72-17 win over North Valleys in a 4A crossover game.

Kordonowy led the way with 17, while Bouza and Lemburg added 14 each.

Carson rolled to a 38-6 halftime lead, and most of the second half was played with a running clock.

Railroaders edge Dayton

SPARKS — Sparks outscored Dayton 25-16 in the second half to grab the win.

“We had a terribly slow start, and got behind early,” Dayton coach Kelly Frantz said. “We never got the lead. We missed easy buckets and even though we were tough on the boards, turnovers and foul trouble hurt us.”

Abby Sikora led the Dayton with 14 points and five rebounds, and Tamia Powell had eight points and five steals. Hannah Coltrin had six points and 11 rebounds, going 5 for 6 from the free throw line.

Douglas defeats Hug

The Tigers downed the Hawks, 55-36, on Saturday. On Friday, the Tigers lost at Reno.

WRESTLING

MINDEN — Three individual champions helped boost the Fernley Vaqueros to a one-point victory Saturday at the Carson Valley Lions Invitational.

Fernley came from third-place in the team standings in the consolation and championship rounds to edge the host-Douglas Tigers, 55.5-154.5, to secure the team title. Yerington was a close third with 151.5 points.

Jaden Blanchard at 113 pounds, Andrew Williams (132) and Blake Murray finished as gold medal winners in their weight classes.

Corbin Henderson, a freshman 106-pounder, Carter Chapin (152) and Setriano Piroddi (220) won individual titles for Fernley.

Dayton’s Tucker Callison advanced to the 120-pound finals, where he lost to Dallin Gresco of Spanish Springs.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL

Carson boys roll

Randy Herrera scored 17 points to lead Carson to a 78-38 win over North Valleys on Saturday morning.

Nate Smothers, Bryan Peralta and Eric Tomita all scored 11 points.

JV GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dust Devils beat Railroaders

Despite trailing much of the game, Dayton defeated Sparks, 22-20, on Saturday.

Morgan Boehme led Dayton’s scorers with 6 and Taylor Kinney had 13 rebounds.
