Not long ago an artist painted a portrait of Mr. Jenkins, who was noted for his frequent libations. The artist invited the gentleman’s friends to see it and they inspected it and pronounced it excellent. One of them, however, who was rather near-sighted, complained of the light, approached it to change its position, when the artist cried out to him, “Don’t touch it; it isn’t dry.” “No use looking at it then,” replied the gentleman. “It can’t be my friend Jenkins.”

Lucky Nevada: When Mr. Stewart talked of for Senator of Nevada a year and a half ago, the Enterprise predicted that his election would be a vast benefit to the silver interest; and the prediction is in a fair way to be verified. Senator Stewart was Saturday appointed to the Chairmanship of the Committee on mines and mining.

Yee Toy, found guilty last week of murder in the first degree in the killing of another oriental, God Kay, at Lovelock last March, was this morning sentenced by Judge Ducker to imprisonment in the state penitentiary for life. — Humboldt Star

With a total of 865 bucks killed by sportsmen, the 1937 deer hunting season in Nevada broke all records for the number of animals taken. This year’s kill exceeds that of last year by 163.

Washoe County School Board last night officially declared their intention for no future use of the picturesque one-room school in Franktown. Lane for the little white school at Franktown at the southern edge of Washoe Valley was offered for use by the school board in 1875 by Joseph Frey. Since August 1956, the building has not been in use.

When Mayor Dan Flammer lights the newly designated community Christmas tree for Carson City at the corner of Musser and Nevada streets today, he will reactivate a tradition of earlier years in Carson City — a longtime favorite of Carson City residents and their families.
