150 Years Ago

Bob Howland, well known as former Warden of the State Prison, is bringing a first class quartz mill from the East to be put up on the claim of the New Jersey Company at Meadow Lake. The claim is a good one, and we hope to hear Bob shipping away many “healthy” gold bars to the Bay city.

Lightening photographers: Carson has heard a good deal about instantaneous picture process, but has never seen any of it until recently. Yesterday Louis C. Woolf and C. L. Shilling were up and down the streets taking instantaneous pictures of business houses. They took a view of the Appeal office with the editorial, reportorial and typographical staff grouped in front.

100 Years Ago

As the Appeal told its readers in Saturday’s issue, Messrs Campbell and Lemmon of the Truckee River General Electric company arrived in this city at 4 o’clock of that day and immediately met the board of city trustees, which had been convened in special session by President Gillson for that purpose for a discussion between the city and the power company (on the removal of power on Main Street, which would have shut down the state prison, orphan’s home and to the state Capitol).

A series of accidents over the weekend in the Lake Tahoe vacation area put one man in a hospital with a fractured neck, resulted in severe head injuries to another, while two other men escaped injuries involving an airplane and an automobile.

Beware of the speeding motorist: The Nevada Highway Patrol has purchased two radar units which it will soon start using. Both units are equipped with a ticket printer.

30 Years Ago

The combination of hot weather and the loss of a production has caused Carson City’s water storage to 63 percent, making water officials to call for residents to practice good water management.
