Community Spotlight: Cardinals off to 3-0 start in flag football


The Cardinals knocked off the Rams, 46-26, in a battle of unbeaten teams in the Talents Carson City Flag Football League.

The Cardinals are off to a 3-0 start after earlier wins against the Cowboys (51-24) and Steelers (54-20). Trevor Marlin has thrown for 10 TDs, while Kory Grist has scored 12 TDs and Alex Myrehn has five.

The Rams, 2-1, have been led by Joel Altermerano (11 TD passes), Erick Vasquez (9 TDs) and Carlos Conchos (7). Kevin Mendevil has contributed five scores.

The Steelers are 1-2 after one week of play. Romeo Menard has four TDs and two TD passes, while Jacob Hansen has four TDs and Roman Dazzo three TDs.

The Cowboys are 0-3, and Andres Rivas has scored four touchdowns.

Games are played Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Eagle Valley Middle School.


Campbell wins club

crown at Dayton

DAYTON — Janice Campbell shot 153 for 36 holes to win the low gross championship at the Dayton Valley Women’s Golf Club Championship recently.

Beth Juri was the low net winner, carding a two-day total of 133.

Lynn Grer won low gross in Flight 1 with a 154 and Denis Johnson won low net with a 139.

Teri Paden won low gross in Flight 2 with a 187 and Dianne Murray won low net with a 143. In flight 3, Suzanne Mohr won low gross with a 208 and M.V. Gentry won low net with a 145. Janie Mielcarek won low gross in Flight 4 with a 265 and she had a 185 net,


Patterson wins

Par-3 crown

Dennis Patterson shot a 48 to win Flight A of the Carson Valley Men’s Club Par-3 tournament over the weekend. All par-5 and par-4 tees were moved to par-3 distances.

Roger Hala was second at 53 and Jack Sparman third at even-par 54.

Augie Martinez won Flight B with a 45, one shot clear of Matt Budjako and two clear of Joe Morrison. Bruce Sanford won Flight C with a 42, four better than Paul Lockwood and eight better than John Guidicatti.
