Norma Vivian Macnab, longtime resident of Carson City, made her peaceful transition to eternal life on September 4, 2016, surrounded by loving family.


She was born in San Francisco to Thomas and Vivian Ayres on October 28, 1923, and spent her childhood in San Francisco, her teenage years in San Francisco and Eugene, OR, and her adult life in Oregon, California and Nevada.


Norma worked for Douglas Aircraft in Southern California and the US Navy in Vallejo, CA (Mare Island) to support the World War II defense effort. She also worked as a volunteer with her mother for the Red Cross during the war. She spent the majority of her working years as an Accountant in the lumber, wood products and hospitality industries.


She loved cats, travelling (especially to Hawaii), Big Band music, watching old movies, spending time with lifelong friends and attending special gatherings with her large family. She was a member of Unity of the Sierra church in Carson City.


Norma is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, John; her special kitty Lucy; her sister Joan Wren of Eugene, OR, her 5 children: Michael Phillips (Gail) of Eugene, OR; Michelle Phillips of Sedona, AZ; Melody Ball of Honolulu, HI; Thomas Ball (Jeanna) of Orland, CA; and Daniel Ball (Debbie) of Ben Lomond, CA, her 12 grandchildren: Scott Phillips (Andrea); Tricia Foster; Frank Monk; Jennifer Lime-Nerger; Neal Ball (Lilly); Chris Ball; Shanna Maldonado;

Tabitha Holmes; Jasmine Ball, Rebekah Ball; Danielle Simpson (David); and Jeffrey Ball (Katie), her 14 great-grandchildren: Laudie Phillips; Alec Barnes; Sarah Geiger (Josh); Jacob Gibson; Danilla Monk; Amy Farmer; David Nerger; Kristopher Nerger; Chris Ball Jr (Elizabeth); Tony Ball; Jessica Lynn Dudley; Nevaeh Maldonado; Desiree Simpson; and Brooklyn Ball, her 3 great-great-grandchildren: Alina Geiger; Evan Mamac; and Justin Dudley, her cousin Bob Forcum (Mary), her niece Kimberly Evans (Bob), and her nephews: Bob Newman (Freddie); Steve Eggink (Cathy); and Mark Eggink (LaVonne).


She is preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter Candice Phillips.


A private service will be held at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.


The family would like to thank Autumn Funerals and Cremations and the compassionate caregivers at Gentiva Hospice.


In memory of Norma, the family would be honored with donations to Advocates to End Domestic Violence in Carson City and Catmandu cat shelter in Carson City.
