Plenty of Halloween events planned in Carson City area

Halloween is less than two weeks away, and there are plenty of trick-or-treating events and spooky celebrations planned to make sure no jack-o’-lantern treat bucket goes unfilled.

Wishes & Angels is holding its inaugural Trunk or Treat safe trick-or-treating event 7-9 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Nevada Appeal, 580 Mallory Way. Volunteers are needed to host trunks, decorate and pass out candy. To help, contact 775-881-7962, or arrive early at 6 p.m. for setup.

From 3 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, kids can collect candy from trunk to trunk at Carson City Cruise’s Trunk N Treat event at Old Hot Springs Road and Challenger Way. The event doubles as a cruise meet and greet open to all makes and models. Trick-or-treating starts at 4:30 p.m. Donations also will be collected for Food For Thought. Harvest Trains including craft vendors, a scarecrow art show, food trucks and a pumpkin patch Oct. 22 and 23 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. Forty-minute steam train rides will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A costume contest and frightfully fun games and snacks for grade school children are planned at Douglas County Public Library’s Halloween Party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24. Call 775-782-9841 or go to douglas.lib.nv.us.

The Historical Society of Dayton Valley is bringing back its annual Haunted Hayride on Oct. 27. Hayrides will run from 5 to 8 p.m. from the Dayton Museum on Shady Lane in Old Town Dayton. Call 775-246-0505 or go to www.daytonnvhistory.org for more information.

A costume contest and Halloween karaoke from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 28 at Carson Lanes’ Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Ave.

Old-fashioned Halloween fun is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Fort Churchill State Historic Park in Silver Springs. The family-friendly event will feature activities including harvest games on the museum lawn, a scavenger hunt around the fort ruins and pumpkin carving and scarecrow building contest. Bring your own pumpkin carving tools and clothing to dress your scarecrow. Pumpkin carving and scarecrow building will be available starting at 4 and judging will take place at 6 p.m. All other activities will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. while supplies last. Virginia City is the site of a monthlong “Hauntober” celebration, a ghostly celebration culminating on Oct. 31. Events include Ghost Walk Tours by Bats in the Belfry 6-8 p.m. Oct. 27-30 at locations around Virginia City. Costumed goblins will march down Virginia City’s C Street at 5 p.m. Oct. 31. Entry is free and sign ups begin at 3 p.m. at the Virginia City Jerky Company, 204 S. C St. Following the Goblin Parade, safe trick-or-treating will take place until 8 p.m. A costume contest also is planned at 4:30 p.m. at the Virginia City Jerky Company; sign up at 3 p.m. at the same place.

A night walk of the Silver Terrace Cemetery in Virginia City is planned from 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 31. The cemetery opens after dark only once a year, on Halloween night, for a walk among the graves on the spookiest night of the year.

Carson City Library will be offering spooky crafts, games and a costume contest from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 in the Digitorium, 900 N. Roop St. The library will be open to trick-or-treaters from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Halloween.

Carson Tahoe Health’s annual Spooktacular celebration from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27 offers trick-or-treating, a bounce house, booths, and displays of fire trucks, ambulances and a CareFlight helicopter. The free event takes place in the north parking lot at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada’s Safe Halloween Celebration is from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30. The event, at 813 N. Carson St., includes trick-or-treating and Halloween crafts for $5 per child. Call 775-884-2226 for more information.
