Tickets are still available for this year’s opening group for the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival and Country Fair, Love and Theft, who will play on Sept. 2.
General admission is $25, and VIP tickets are $45 for the country group that swept the music world seven years ago with their top 10 hit, “Runaway.” Tickets may purchased online at http://falloncantaloupefestival.tix.com, or for general admission at Fallon Ford-Toyota and CC Communications. Robyn Jordan, marketing director for the Cantaloupe Festival, said the VIP package includes a weekend pass to the festival, two drink tokens and admittance to the VIP tent.
Rachel Steele and Road 88 and Stephen Christie and Kyle Rothchild will open for Love and Theft. Gates open at the Churchill County Fairgrounds at 5 p.m., and Love and Theft performs at 8 p.m.
With less than two weeks before the festival opens, 37 vendors have signed up for the three-day event that runs over Labor Day weekend. The number of vendors includes 10 food, nine nonprofits, six commercial, five sponsored, four crafts and two farmers markets.
This year’s Cantaloupe Festival committee said its goal is to have between 50 to 60 vendors. To become a vendor, apply online at http://www.falloncantaloupefestival.com/#!vendors/ck0q or contact Don Hardy at 775-217-3783 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The festival also seeks volunteers to assist in many different areas. To apply, go online at http://www.falloncantaloupefestival.com/#!volunteer/l0bic or call Jordan at 775-294-7969.
Churchill County Parks and Recreation will present its annual Coed Mud Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 3-4. The tournament will be held during the Cantaloupe Festival at the fairgrounds’ mud pits. The price is $150 before Aug. 26 and $160 after that date (includes guaranteed event shirt if registered by Aug. 26). All teams are guaranteed three games.
Players may bring in their own coolers to the event, but any alcohol must remain within the mud volleyball area and cannot be brought into the festival.
There will be cash prizes and trophies for first, second and third places. A trophy for the winner of the consolation bracket will also be presented. For information, call Churchill County Parks and Recreation at 775-423-7733.
