SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: To Carson City’s Sarge with Love

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Sgt. Scott McDaniel for his 35 years of service in law enforcement and for his service to Carson City as he’s retiring from the Carson City Sheriff’s Department.

SILVER DOLLAR: Last week we recognized those who served at Pearl Harbor, but obviously we can’t recognize the significance of Pearl Harbor enough as we commemorated the 75th anniversary last week. We’d like to thank Nevada Appeal contributor Ken Beaton for his enormous contributions to our edition on Wednesday and also to all of our readers who shared their memories. We’d also like to thank all those who served on the USS Nevada, including Charles Sehe, our adopted son, who lives in Minnesota. He served on the USS Nevada at Pearl Harbor and continued to serve on the ship throughout World War II. And of course to the 76 men who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving on the USS Nevada on that day.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Experimental Aircraft Association for bringing a 1928 Ford Tri-Motor airplane to the Carson City Airport and giving residents a chance to view Carson City from the plane.
