Brian V. Smith

October 13, 1954 – November 24, 2016

With sadness in our hearts, we announce the death of Brian Victor Smith on November 24, 2016, who passed away peacefully after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

Brian was born in Akron, Ohio, on October 13, 1954, to parents Barbara (Flostrom) Smithand George M. Smith, Jr.

He graduated from high school in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and then went on to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, where he studied Wild Life Management and worked for the Montana State Forestry Department.

Brian moved to Nevada in the late 1970s where he married Jerrie Douglass and had two children, Ryan and Cassidy.

Family legacy and passion for the game of golf led him to pursue his dream of becoming a golf professional, and in June of 1992 he was inducted into the Professional Golf Association (PGA). After working at several Carson City area clubs, he became the head golf professional at Glenbrook golf course in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, then moved to Dallas, Texas, as a teaching pro.

Brian gave back to golf in many ways: countless hours spent on the rules committee as a rules official; serving as secretary on the Northern California Section PGA Board; and teaching the proper golf swing to his students. Brian’s true passion in golf, however, was First Tee, a national program to improve the lives and skills of young people through the game of golf. M S. forced Brian to retire in 2009, whereupon he returned to Carson City to be close to

family and friends.

Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, George M. and Mary A. Smith; mother, Barbara Schneider (Smith); sister, Brooke E. Mueller (Smith, Hobson); and brother, Bruce M. Smith.

He is survived by his two children, Ryan and Cassidy Smith; 1st wife Jerrie Smith; father, George M. Smith, Jr.; step-mother, Mary C. Smith; sister, Brandy Smith-Vuich; and brother-in- law, Dan Vuich.

Brian was a kind-hearted, gentle and considerate person. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
