150 years ago

Our Liberty pole. Yesterday Mr. Andrew Wright did a good service to his country by climbing the Liberty pole which adorns our plaza and straightening the iron rods which stay it from the cross-trees, and which had become bent and slackened by the action of wintry zephyrs.

130 years ago

On Sunday morning Constable Stern arrested Matt Brannan on the charge of setting fire to Rickey’s house. He was taken before Justice Gaige who bound him over to appear before the Grand Jury and fixed his bonds at $1,000. The cause of the arrest was the findings of the fire commission.

100 years ago

About 4:30 yesterday afternoon while Attorney George Montrose, accompanied by his mother and sister, were out for an auto ride on the Gardnerville road, an Indian, known as Indian Andy, came riding wildly down the road on horseback and crashed into the auto. No one was hurt, but the auto was damaged and the horse lost several teeth. Montrose left to find Sheriff Stern and upon their return found the Indian dangling from a tree. The hanging was judged to be self-imposed, using the harness from the horse.

70 years ago

The oldest car registered in Nevada for 1946 is a 1912 Ford coupe owned by Newton See of Winnemucca. See’s car was in operation one year before the motor vehicle department of Nevada came into existence in 1913.

(Photo caption) The newest addition to the Carson City recreation area Governors Field received a start in the right direction Saturday morning with the pouring of foundations and footings for rest rooms and dressing rooms, with the help of Carson Ready-Mix and a number of volunteers.

Security will be so tight that airplanes won’t be allowed to fly within two miles of the church where Maria Schriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be married Saturday.
