AZZ Galvanizing to build plant at TRIC

AZZ Galvanizing Services will soon begin construction of a new plant in this region, Carson City and Reno development authorities announced Tuesday.

The Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA) and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) said the global provider of galvanizing services will build the new plant in the Tahoe-Reno-Industrial Center (TRIC) of northern Storey County. They said up to 60 jobs will result in the first few years. The plant will be the latest in a network of 43 after-fabrication galvanizing operations in the United States and Canada.

Construction is expected to begin early next year. AZZ Galvanizing headquarters on the services company’s website are listed as in Fort Worth, Texas.

“The jobs that AZZ Galvanizing will bring to our area are exactly the type of skilled, advanced jobs we need in Northern Nevada,” said Rob Hooper, executive director with the NNDA office in Nevada’s capital city. He called the project part of a collaboration between NV Energy, NNDA and EDAWN.

“AZZ is a great fit for our community,” said Mike Kazmierski, EDAWN’s CEO, “and signifies that the advanced manufacturing sector continues to grow and thrive here.”

Among those also credited in helping bring in AZZ were Miles Construction, Storey County Economic Development, Reno Engineering and L. Lance Gilman.

The Carson City-based NNDA identifies itself as the economic development authority for the Sierra region of the capital city, Lyon, Douglas and Churchill Counties, and the Comstock District.
