The Carson Wood Driving Company yesterday held its annual election of officers for the ensuing year. Messrs. Freeman, Standtmuller, Ward, A.A. Smith and Gibson were elected trustees, who chose A.A. Smith as President Simpson, superintendent, and Standtmuller, treasurer. The business of the company is to float wood from Alpine County down the Carson River to Empire.

The men who have recently been “let go” from the Mint are soundly abusing Mint Director Burchard for refusing to stand by them in the hour of peril. George Davis, who telegraphed to Washington to invoke the Civil Service Reform rules, has now given up the fight and leaves for New York tonight by way of Panama.

E. R. Bennett, M.E., of the University of Nevada School of Mines, who arrived in Tonopah with his wife yesterday, is getting plans rounded out for instituting the Tonopah School of Mines, of which he will be principal. It is to be located in the old High School building.

The first meeting of the 4-H council for Ormsby County was held last night at the grammar school auditorium. Kirby Brumfield, Jr. was elected president, and Dorothy Berger will serve as vice president.

Hank Monk vowed today that the gale winds will die down tonight and clearing weather is on its way, accompanied by some chilly temperatures, however.

Yesterday some 23 vehicle loads of Four Wheel Warriors trekked across some rugged terrain from Carson City to Lagomorsino Canyon some 10 miles northeast of Virginia City to observe the Indian Petroglyphs.
