140 years ago

The Town Board was in session last evening. Trustees Driesbach, Klein and Corbett, and Clerk Edwards present. A petition was presented to open a street in the northwest portion of the town and a committee of three was appointed to view the premises and report to the board. An ordinance was passed for the encouragement of the planting of trees along the sides of the street. It offers 20 cents for shade trees, other than cottonwood, after the second year of growth.

130 years ago

The potato race (continued from Wednesday). Harry DeAhna opens out by swinging his skate into Matt Brannon’s ear, Frank Collins turns a somersault over Pete Gordon. Horace Dorsey makes a miss-lick and falls in a woman’s lap, George Cagwin, after a few graceful curves, sends his left skate up into the gallery, and everybody who can fall down on anybody else does so. There will be more of this next Saturday, and there is talk of allowing ladies to enter the spud contest.

100 years ago

Learning that the United States fisheries at Baird, Calif., contained an excess quantity of fish eggs of the rainbow trout variety, and there being a shortage of that kind in Nevada, Fish Commissioner Mills recently wrote the superintendent at that point. Mills received a reply that 100,000 eggs were available as soon as instructions arrived.

All liquor serving establishments which have not posted their new ceiling price lists and filed copies with their local war price and rationing boards by Monday will be considered in violation and subject to enforcement action, the price administration office announced today.

60 years ago

Members of Nevada Psi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority met last week at the home of Mrs. Norman Elston. Mrs. Ray Schulz conducted the business meeting, at which time reports were given on the bake sale.

50 years ago
