Fernley Veterans Cemetery given $700,000 grant

Funds will be used for expansion

FERNLEY — Federal officials are giving more than $700,000 to expand the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced the Department of Veterans Affairs grant on Thursday.

The money will help the cemetery develop about three more acres and will cover the cost of road construction, landscaping and columbaria for holding cremated remains.

Reid said the cemetery is the only one of its kind for more than 100 miles, and said the money will help it continue as a fitting final resting place for Nevada veterans.
