Carson City should continue fair

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will soon discuss the possibility of continuing the fair. I attended the NV 150 Fair July 31-Aug. 3. My daughter showed a dairy heifer and needed to be there to care for her animal. The week was a delight!

The livestock area was well organized. The groups, both 4-H and FFA, should be very proud of the children representing them. There were kids from Fallon, Smith Valley, Reno, Carson City and Douglas County. They all visited, helped each other care for their animals and kept the facility clean while taking time to answer questions and speak about their animals, projects, and agriculture.

Several businesses had booths in the vendor area, which was so much nicer than the usual carnival fare. The carnival was clean and well maintained. I heard good reviews on the Comstock Cowboys and the Ranch Hand Rodeo. The entertainment included something for everyone!

If the joy in an older gentleman’s face as he told my daughter about the dairy he was raised on, or the wonder in a little girl’s eyes as she reached her hand out to touch her very first live cow is the measure of success, the fair is a priceless gem for the community.

Please write the mayor and/or supervisors at 210 N. Carson St., Suite 2, Carson City, NV 89701, or email them under the Carson City website, or plan to attend the meeting to show your support for this excellent family event.
