Reno pulls away vs. Douglas

MINDEN — Even after giving the ball away on its opening two possessions on Friday night, the Reno High School football team recovered and went on to a 30-0 victory against Douglas.

Reno (1-1) drove 91 yards to score a touchdown at the end of the first half and scored again early in the third quarter to push a 3-0 lead to 17-0 en route to spoiling the season home opener and Hall of Fame Game for Douglas (1-2).

Cole Eddy scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 19-yard burst up the middle to give the Huskies a 17-0 lead after their opening possession of the third quarter. The touchdown was set up by a Daniel Jimenez interception near midfield.

Douglas answered with its best offensive showing of the night, an 11-play drive that ended with a missed field goal attempt. Kaleb Foster¹s 14-yard run gave the Tigers first-and-goal at the 3, however, the Tigers were called for an illegal motion and then were thrown for a 5-yard loss on back-to-back plays leading up to the field goal attempt.

Reno drove 91 yards on 12 plays, capped by a 2-yard Gage Kabish touchdown run to make it 10-0 with 52 seconds left before halftime.

Jimenez returned the game¹s opening kickoff 75 yards, however, Reno fumbled the ball away one play later and Nick Abreu recovered in the end zone to give Douglas a touchback. The Huskies also turned the ball over on their second possession when Foster intercepted a pass.
