Reno theater presents dark comedy at Carson’s BAC

“Gruesome Playground Injuries,” a play by Pulitzer wait-listed playwright Rajiv Joseph, will open Brüka Theatre’s next season and its 22nd year in downtown Reno with three additional performances in Carson City.

Rod Hearn directs the darkly comic play that follows the story of a 30-year relationship between Kayleen, played by Stacy Johnson, and Doug, played by Wesley Gaines McNair, who never quite got it together in any traditional sense. When they yearn to touch each other, it’s platonic, often pressing a fresh, gaping wound or empty eye socket. Physical suffering for these two damaged souls is much more intimate.

Performances at Brüka Theatre, 99 N. Virginia St. in Reno, will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sept. 17, 18 and 19 and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Performances at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 and 27 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 27.

Tickets cost $20 each for general and $18 each for students, seniors and military. All tickets at the doors cost $25 each.
