Doubles player Aaron Woodbury, 6-0 with his partner Kyle Kunz, hit a backhand against Wooster on Thursday at Carson High.
Carson High’s boys tennis squad outlasted Wooster 11-7 Thursday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the young season.
The team of Kyle Kunz and Aaron Woodbury went 2-0 as did Trevor Sollberger and Jared Hearn. Zach Simms and Stuart McElhany won their only doubles match 6-0.
In singles, Taylor Saarem and Jake Jones each went 2-0.
Jayson Artz and Nico Salm topped Wooster’s No. 1 team, 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 11-9.
Girls tennis
Carson edges Wooster
RENO — Preeta Amin went 3-0, and Anya Woodbury and Shaylin Segura each went 2-1 to lead the Senators to a 10-8 win over the Colts Thursday afternoon.
Carson is now 2-1.
The three singles players accounted for seven of the wins. Emma Breeding and Amanda Breen went 2-1 in doubles.
Frosh football
Carson loses opener
McQueen broke open a close game with two unanswered TDs in the fourth quarter en route to a 42-26 win over the Seantors Thursday afternoon.
Abel Carter gave Carson a quick 6-0 lead with a 50-yard run on the team’s first play from scrimmage. The Lancers scored two defensive touchdowns to grab a 14-6 lead.
A Daniel Morrison TD pass to Damian Wallace tied the game at 14, but the Lancer scored again to take a 21-14 lead into the locker room.
Carson closed to 21-20 on a Wallace to Wyatt Rooker pass only to see McQueen extend the lead to 28-20. Wallace and Rooker hooked up again to make it 28-26, setting the stage for McQueen’s late uprising.
Carson visits North Valleys next Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Varsity football
Douglas visits N. Valleys
The Tigers, coming off an impressive win over Minico-Idaho last weekend, open league play at North Valleys.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Cale Kynettt, who scored twice last week, looks to have a big game tonight. He scored on a 33-yard run and a 73-yard pass play.
Kaleb Foster led the defense with a 93-yard interception return.
JC baseball
WNC baseball at Nevada Sunday
The Western Nevada College baseball team opens its fall scrimmage season Sunday against Feather River College of Quincy, Calif.
The doubleheader begins at 11 a.m. at Peccole Park at the University of Nevada, Reno, the site of six of the Wildcats’ fall games.
D.J. Whittemore, entering his 10th season at the helm of the Wildcats, said the club will take the same approach that it does when the regular season begins in late January.
“We play to win and we try to learn from and minimize our mistakes,” Whittemore said.
The intrasquad World Series is set for mid-October.
