CASI making progress in new-shelter mission

The dedicated volunteers of Friends of Carson Animal Services Initiative, better known as CASI, have been diligent in their mission to make a new animal shelter a reality for Carson City residents.

Starting the year out with ambitious goals of raising more money for the shelter construction fund is only part of CASI’s mission. The non-profit group organized by Lisa Schuette, a longtime Carson City resident, has a very clear mission: to raise funds to assist the municipality of Carson City, Nevada, to build a safe and modern animal shelter for all animals in need. CASI also strives to build community as well. The community support has been evident as proven by the recently sold out wine tasting event held at the Carson Nugget. The generous support from the business and community members also has been astounding. CASI volunteers have amassed thousands of hours in their efforts to raise awareness and money through public outreach. CASI assists with adoption events along side the Carson Animal Shelter, hosts informational booths throughout the area, speaks at local service club meetings; works on grant writing and fundraising events.

Many great fundraising events are planned this year, including the newest ongoing event, CASI Bingo. CASI is now hosting monthly bingo games at the Carson City Senior Center on the first Sunday of each month and on some holidays. CASI has conducted two bingo events so far this year. Support from the community is building with an increase in attendance at each game. The added incentive of prize money that is available to the winners of the games is also helpful. The bingo events also offer raffle prizes, generously donated by the businesses of Carson City.

If you are interested in supporting CASI by becoming a volunteer, a member or by donating to the construction fund, please visit its website at www.friendsofcasi.org, or call Lisa at 775-671-2413.

Kudos to Heller for voting for veterans

I see according to a recent article in the Appeal that the party of greed, party of no, party of do nothing Republicans in the Senate blocked the recent veterans bill.

Kudos to Dean Heller and Jerry Moran who were the only two Senate Republicans to cross over to vote for the bill and stand with our nation’s veterans.
